Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age, yet it often goes undiagnosed or misunderstood for years. At Cache Valley Women’s Center, we believe every woman deserves answers — and relief — when it comes to her reproductive health.

As a dedicated women’s health clinic and home to experienced providers including an endometriosis specialist, we’re here to shed light on this complex condition and support you with expert, compassionate care.

What Is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus — most commonly on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and surrounding pelvic tissue. Unlike normal endometrial tissue, which sheds during menstruation, this tissue has no way to exit the body. Over time, it can cause inflammation, scarring, and adhesions.

Causes and Origins

While the exact cause of endometriosis is still not fully understood, several theories exist:

  • Retrograde menstruation, where menstrual blood flows backward into the pelvic cavity.

  • Hormonal imbalances and immune system dysfunctions.

  • Genetic predisposition, as endometriosis tends to run in families.

No matter the cause, what’s important is getting timely evaluation and effective treatment — and that starts with recognizing the signs.

Common Symptoms

The symptoms of endometriosis can vary greatly from woman to woman. Some may experience severe pain, while others have no symptoms at all. However, common indicators include:

  • Pelvic pain, especially during or before menstruation

  • Pain during or after intercourse

  • Excessive menstrual bleeding

  • Fatigue

  • Digestive issues like bloating, constipation, or nausea

  • Difficulty getting pregnant

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, it’s time to talk with a trusted gynecologist in Logan, Utah who specializes in women’s health.

Why Diagnosis Matters

Untreated endometriosis can lead to long-term complications, including infertility and chronic pelvic pain. Yet many women delay seeking care — either due to misinformation or because they’re told their symptoms are “normal.”

At Cache Valley Women’s Center, we take every concern seriously. Our team includes endometriosis specialists who are skilled in diagnostic tools such as pelvic exams, ultrasounds, and minimally invasive laparoscopy when needed. Most importantly, we listen.

Treatment Options

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to treating endometriosis. Depending on your age, severity of symptoms, and fertility goals, treatment may include:

  • Hormonal therapies to reduce or eliminate menstruation

  • Pain management including NSAIDs or prescription medications

  • Minimally invasive surgery to remove endometrial growths

  • Lifestyle changes, including nutrition, exercise, and stress reduction

  • Fertility support for women trying to conceive

The right care starts with the right conversation — and that’s what we’re here for.
