Every April is Cesarean Awareness Month—a time organized by The International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) to share resources, stories, and support about C-sections and their impact on maternal and infant health. This month is also an opportunity to focus on education and advocacy for cesarean births and promote informed decision-making regarding childbirth.

As your trusted OB/GYN in Logan, Utah we’re here to listen and guide you along your journey to the most positive birth experience for you.

Let’s take a more detailed look at what this month is all about and how you can get involved:

Purpose

The goal of this month is to help educate expectant parents and society as a whole about C-sections and their necessity, benefits, and risks. It’s also a time to offer support and also to advocate for reducing unnecessary cesarean births.

The ultimate objective is to promote positive birth experiences and the health of mothers, infants, and families.

Areas Of Focus

  • VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). Supporting and advocating for vaginal birth after a previous C-section—when medically appropriate and in the best interest of the mother and baby.
  • Reducing preventable C-sections. Promoting and implementing strategies to avoid unnecessary cesarean births.
  • Patient support. Address the needs, questions, and concerns of women who have or are considering a C-section.

Why It Matters

Knowing, understanding, and sharing the facts about C-sections can help expectant mothers make informed decisions regarding their birth experience. It can also help reduce anxiety in the process, and improve birth outcomes.
